Turkish-Syrian Relations in the Post-Assad Period: An Assessment of Opportunities and Constraints

Banu Eligür is Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science and International Relations and Director of the European Union and International Relations Institute at Başkent University in Ankara-Turkey. Prof. Eligür received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Brandeis University. She is the author of The Mobilization of Political Islam in Turkey (Cambridge University Press, 2010). Her articles have been published in the Journal of the Middle East and Africa, British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, Israel Affairs, Current Trends in Islamist Ideology, Middle Eastern Studies, and Turkish Studies. Prof. Eligür is the recipient numerous awards and fellowships including the inaugural Bernard Lewis Memorial Prize in 2018 and the Best Paper Award in the Category of the Middle East in 2013 by ASMEA as well as the Morris Abrams Award in International Relations in 2003. Eligür, while completing her forthcoming book entitled, Nationalism in Turkey and the Non-Muslim Minorities, writes on Chinese-Israeli relations and European Jewish refugees in Shanghai during and in the aftermath of the Holocaust.
